Swiss Foundation Announces Plans to Revive Fiber Art in Lausanne
For 30 years, the city of Lausanne was host to the Lausanne Biennial, the most
important international exhibition of large-scale Fiber Art. Artists who exhibited
at the Biennials gave many works of art to the Pierrre Pauli Association, a
collection now consisting of Fiber Art made between 1961 and 1987 by more
than fifty international artists. This collection recently joined with the Mary
Toms collection, containing European tapestries of the 16th through the 19th
centuries as well as French and English embroidered furniture and rugs.
On November 3, 2000, a fact-finding delegation of six board members of the Toms/Pauli Foundation of Lausanne, Switzerland visited SOFA Chicago, and presented their collections and early plans to establish a new museum for the exhibition and collection of contemporary fiber art and traditional tapestry.
